Nicknamed ‘The Rattler’, the Ford V8 was the first type of engine bought by the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board. It was ordered to replace hose tenders and dated engines at the time. This vehicle served for many years as the “Flyer”, a service term for the first engine out of the Headquarters Station.
