Crystal Heart in volcanic rock by Bernado Cesare

Glorious Geology Science Photographer of the Year

Here’s the last of our posts featuring an amazing image from our forthcoming exhibition ‘Science Photographer of the Year’. An international competition organised by the Royal Photographic Society, this will be its first showing outside of London.

The exhibition brings together 47 incredible photographic images showing off the diversity of science in action all over the world.

We hope you enjoy this sneak peek of the exhibition which helps you explore related topics along with suggestions of things to do during the lockdown.

Even Stone Has a Heart. Photographer: Bernardo Cesare

Studying volcanic lava helps geologists see how magma interacts with the earth’s crust. This sample from Lipari, Italy also contains a spectacular, heart-shaped crystal structure.
