No Power or Water!?

It may be hard to believe, but not too long ago people didn’t have electricity or running water in their homes! They did all the same things we do – play, learn, cook, clean, spend time with whānau… but they did it in very different ways than we do now.

No Electricity!

How do you think people got by without electricity?  How did they stay warm and see at night?

See if you can match the technology Victorian people (living in the 1800s) used with what we use for the same thing today.  This is your classic game of Memory – flip the cards to find pairs!

No Indoor Plumbing!

Houses didn’t have plumbing either! This means there were no taps, no showers, and no flushing toilets!

How did people get water to drink, cook with, and clean with? How did their toilets work without water?

See if you can match up the ways Victorian people (living in the 1800s) used water with what we do today.  This is your classic game of Memory – flip the cards to find pairs!
